Caritas Sri Lanka - SEDEC

Around 40 students of the National Institute of Social Development (NISD) who are training to be Social Workers took part in an open forum arranged by the Caritas Women's Desk under the caption " Social Welfare of migrant workers and their families", held at the BMICH Committee Room in Colombo on  26th January 2012.

The forum was moderated by Mr Jayashanka Basnayake, Manager of the Integral Human Development in SEDEC and presentations were made by Prof. Ramanie Jayatileke of the University of Colombo who spoke on "Labour migration to Middle East countries and its impact on women and children", while Dr Dhammika Herath of the International Centre for Ethnic Studies (ICES) addressed on " The absence of a proper re-integration process for migrant workers". This was followed by a lively Q&A session in which the NISD students took an active part and sought to clarify issues related to safe migration.
