Workshop on livelihoods development

A 3-day workshop was held from 18-20 January 2012 at Green Centre, Tholangamuwa to discuss the current implementation strategies of the Caritas livelihoods development program and to develop methodologies for remedying the weaknesses in such strategies. A group of 24 diocesan representatives working in the IHDtCE program in 12 Diocesan Centres participated in the sessions which were held in Sinhala and Tamil languages and facilitated by Mr Rohitha Welihindage of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and Mr Jayashanka Basnayake, Manager of the Caritas IHD Program.
Some of the issues discussed in the workshop were insufficient investment in livelihoods, diversification and collectivizing of ventures, weaknesses in analysis of feasibility and family context, developing linkages and identification of poorest communities.
