Signature campaign for Safe Migration
Caritas Sri Lanka SEDEC in collaboration with its Diocesan Centres in Trincomalee, Galle, Kandy, Batticaloa, Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala and Badulla has launched a Signature Campaign to collect 10,000 signatures in support of a request to the government to translate into Sinhala and Tamil the contract letters issued to women domestic workers leaving for foreign employment.
Among the targeted signatories are migrant returnees, aspiring migrants, and their family members as well as community leaders, religious leaders and other stakeholders. Each Diocesan Centre would aspire to collect around 1,500 signatures and Caritas is backing up the signature campaign with banners and leaflets printed in Sinhala and Tamil languages.
At the conclusion of the campaign, a petition supported by the signatures obtained will be handed over to the State authorities concerned.
