Two workshops on “Human Dignity through Religious Perspective ‘’ were held in Killinochchi and Jaffna on 30th May and 31st May 2012, respectively.

The program in Killinochchi was held at HUDEC Vanni Centre where 27 school teachers participated with the permission of the Department of Education. It was arranged under the guidance of Rev.Fr. A. Yavis, Diocesan Director of HUDEC Vanni.

The second programme was held at HUDEC Jaffna with the participation of a group of 25 school teachers as well as Daham Pasal teachers. It was arranged under the guidance of Rev.Fr. Bernard Regno, Diosesan Director of HUDEC Jaffna.

In both events, the participants belonged to Christian and Hindu faiths, and the majority of them were women.

The workshop sessions were mainly activity-oriented and were designed to highlight the teachings and values of Christianity and Hinduism on the subject of human dignity. The participants were given awareness on the importance of respecting the human dignity of each and every person and to recognize the responsibility or obligation they have towards their neighbour in protecting their human rights. The participants were also helped to understand that they have to collectively achieve fulfillment in life.

The Resource Team for the programs was made up of Rev. Sr. Dhayalini AC, Mr. Freddie Jayewardene and Mr.Dhinush Jayasuriya from the Caritas Sri Lanka National Centre and they were assisted by the Diocesan Peace Coordinators of Vanni and Jaffna.
