Ensure Safe Migration and Prevent Human Trafficking

A group of 33 community leaders from the dioceses of Jaffna, Trincomalee/Batticaloa, Mannar and Badulla participated in a one-day program held on 24th February to create public awareness on the many issues faced by migrant workers due to their ignorance of safe migration measures, and also to draw attention to the dangers of human trafficking taking place both within Sri Lanka and outside.
This Tamil language program held in Anuradhapura was later followed by a second one conducted in Sinhala on 23rd March at the SEDEC auditorium in Borella where 27 community leaders from the dioceses of Anuradhapura, Ratnapura, Chilaw and Badulla participated.
Mr. Suresh Kumara of the Sociology Division of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFBE) was the resource person at these sessions which were arranged under the guidance of Rev. Sr. Ushani Perera of Caritas Sri Lanka Women's Desk.
