Caritas Sri Lanka - SEDEC

Rev Fr George Sigamoney, Director of Caritas Sri Lanka SEDEC recently led a team of SEDEC Officers on a visit to Jaffna to review the progress of the VICJAF Fishnet Factory functioning under the purview of Caritas Jaffna HUDEC. They  held discussions with Rev.Fr.Bernard Regno,  Director of Caritas Jaffna – HUDEC and also met the employees and some members of the Board of Directors of the project to get first-hand information on its operational and administrative aspects.

The VICJAF Fishnet Factory was set up two years ago as an initiative of the Church in the North to address the livelihoods of tsunami victim families, especially widows who had lost their sole bread winners in the disaster of December 2004. The project was supported by Caritas Australia, the Government of Victoria and Caritas France.

While in Jaffna the SEDEC team also met with the Bishop of Jaffna, Rt Rev Dr Thomas Savundranayagam for an assessment of the present situation in Jaffna and the future plans of the Church to help the IDP families.
