Caritas Sri Lanka welcomes the Newly appointed Archbishop of Colombo,

The newly appointed Archbishop of Colombo Most Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith arrived in Sri Lanka on 31st July 2009 and was welcomed by His Grace Archbishop Oswald Gomis, Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Marcus Fernando, Bishop Marius Peiris, the Episcopal Vicars, Rev. Fathers of the Administrative Council, the Deans, representatives of the Government Hon. Sarath Gunaratne, Neomal Perera, Dayasritha Tissera and members of the opposition Hon. Joseph Micheal Perera, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena, Mayor of Negombo Nimal Lanza, Catholic staff of the Airport.

The National Director of Caritas Sri Lanka Rev. Fr. Damian Fernando was also at hand to greet the newly appointed Archbishop.  The new Archbishop has strong ties with Caritas Sri Lanka. Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith commenced his career as a social worker even before he was ordained, while he was studying as a seminarian in the National Seminary in Ampitiya, Kandy.
During his regency period he joined SEDEC as an employee and under the guidance of Founder Director Rev. Fr. Joe Fernando.
 
The Installation of Most Rev. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith as the Archbishop of Colombo will be on 5th August 2009 at St. Lucia's Cathedral, Kotahena, at 9.00 a.m. His Grace Archbishop Malcolm Ranjith will arrive at 8.30 a.m. at the Cathedral and after the ceremonial procession, Liturgical Service will commence at 9.00 a.m.

Caritas Sri Lanka welcomes the new Archbishop of Colombo and wishes him the very best in all his future endeavours .
