The Caritas Sri Lanka 'Prevention of Torture' Workshops continue

The eleventh workshop on the prevention of torture for police officers was held on the 3rd and 4th of August 2009 at the Caritas Sri Lanka Auditorium with the participation of 40 police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID ) of the Sri Lanka Police.

These series of workshops are conducted by Caritas Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Police Department and is designed to build awareness for police officers on the prevention of torture. Up to date ten workshops have being conducted throughout the island training a total of 460 police officers, especially those who are involved in the CID and TID.

This programme will continue and is expected to train 1500 police officers in the prevention of torture. The next workshop is scheduled to be held on the 24th and 25th of August 2009 at the Caritas Sri Lanka Auditorium mainly for the Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, Kalutara and Panadura based police divisions.
