Caritas Sri Lanka held a Review Meeting recently under the Scholarship Programme funded by Caritas Poland. The objective of the event was to gather positive facts and outcomes of the current programme scheduled to come to an end on 31 May 2019. The meeting took place at the Conference Hall at Caritas Sri Lanka in Colombo on 1st March 2019.

Out of 13 Dioceses, 12 Diocesan Project Coordinators presented their facts. Rev. Fr. Desmond Perera, Director of Caritas Kandy-SETIK and Rev. Fr. S. Anton, Director of Caritas Mannar-Valvuthayam also joined in the discussions.

During the meeting, common challenges such as poor road infrastructure hampering the smooth functioning of the programme implementation at village levels and monitoring the university students as they are scattered in the universities across the country were discussed in great detail.

A notable outcome of the scholarship programme was that this programme is not only providing financial assistance but building healthy relationships with the beneficiary, parents and teachers improving the educational standards of the children who are at the receiving end.

All the Coordinators shared that the Poland/Caritas Sri Lanka Scholarship programme is popular in their respective Dioceses and requested to increase the amount as well as number of beneficiaries due to popular demand.
