Centre for Disabled (CFD) in Mannar celebrated its 20th Anniversary recently. The Centre was established in 1999 to cater to the needs of the differently abled individuals who were mostly affected by the humanitarian operations across the country.
Catholic Relief Services has been funding the CFD in Mannar for the last 9-year period and the centre provides Prosthetic and Orthotic (P&O), physiotherapy and counselling services. The event held on 31st of January 2019 had a large gathering of invitees including the former directors, priests, religious leaders, differently abled and their family members and staff of both CFD and Valvudayam centres.
The Government Agent for Mannar District, Mr. Mohan Ras graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mannar, Very. Rev. Fr. Victor Sosai was the Special Guest. Fr. Sosai also inaugurated the Awareness Walk organized by CFD from Valvuthayam to CFD Centre. Many number of beneficiaries who obtained the support from CFD, also joined in the walk celebrating the years of service of CFD, especially to the disabled individuals of all the districts covering Sri Lanka.
Many individuals and private companies including MOBITEL extended their support to CFD.
The events were organized under the leadership of Rev. Fr. S. Anton, Director of Caritas Mannar-Valvuthayam.
