Two representatives from Caritas Sri Lanka Mrs. Beula Fernando and Mr. Freddie Jayawardena were among the participants of the Case Management for Safe Migration and Anti Human Trafficking Workshop held from 25th to 28th February 2019 at Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Participants from Caritas member organizations from four South Asian countries and 10 East Asian countries were present thanks to the organizers – Caritas Asia.

Bishop Enrique Figaredo, President of Caritas Cambodia celebrated the Inauguration Mass. The workshop discussed pragmatic matters relating to trafficking in persons – clear definitions, victim identification, case management, sharing from member organizations, service mapping, Trauma Informed Approach (TIA), creating a chain of victim care and networking. The workshop was moderated and guided by two expert resource persons from Global Shepherds, Malaysia.

A special envoy from the Vatican Migrant & Refugee Section of the Human Development Dicastery established directly under Pope Francis presented the Pastoral Orientation on Human Trafficking and explained its mission to assist the Bishops of the Catholic Church and all those serving these vulnerable groups.

This well-organized highly professional workshop, allowed sufficient time for participants from different countries to interact with each other and made it possible for Caritas Sri Lanka participants to share and bring back wealth of knowledge.
