A 2 day Knowledge Enhancement Workshop on formation of Federation was conducted to the 40 CBO leaders of the ‘Civic Dialogue Special Project for Mannar’ by Caritas Valvuthayam in close collaboration with Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC on 24th& 25th of March 2021, abiding by the COVID – 19 rules & regulations.
The Civic Dialogue project is an integrated and human development programme focussing on the aspects of social and economic development of the war affected families in the Districts of Mannar & Vavuniya. Caritas Korea funds the project and the activities to uplift the lives of the 391 beneficiary families in 8 villages since July 2019.
This Federation formation workshop was successfully conducted in Tamil medium by Mr. Arivalagan, the president of Vavuniya District NGO consortium on the ways and means as to how they could form CBOs into District level federations. These collaborative efforts under the federation formation will strengthen the members in gaining access to the government facilities and receiving more attention of the authorities for their local needs and issues.
At the end of the 2 day workshop, certificates were handed over to the CBO leaders by His Lordship the Bishop of Mannar, Rt.Rev.Dr. Emmanuel Fernando.
On the 1st day of the workshop, held on 23rd March, it was discussed the importance and why a federation level committee is formed, its characteristics, the responsibilities and duties of the CBOs and federation members and of the executive committee members. During the workshop, by conducting an election, the governance body of the federation and the administrative members were chosen for the smooth function of the federation level activities.
During the 2nd day, the federation level activities for the next 06 months were discussed and prioritized the needs such as creating the constitution and decisions were taken to register the Federations under the state authorities to add more value and to give legal status to the federation.
