In view of the next Strategic Plan of Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC, two contextual analysis virtual study sessions were organized recently.

On 9th of June 2021, the discussion titled, “ An Analysis of the Present Socio Political Context of Sri Lanka” was organized and the guest speaker was Emeritus Professor Jayadeva Uyangoda from the University of Colombo.. Pro. Jayadeva focussed his presentation from the historical evolution of politics in Sr Lanka and analysed the situation from the social analytical point of view and expressed his concerns as to how the present pandemic and governance could shape our present way of living. He also invited religious leader and others to initiate more wider discourse on the reconciliation and  other aspects relevant to the democratic way of life.

On 11th Of June 2021, the second discussion was organized and the guest speaker was Mr. Saliya Peris, President Council, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka. The virtual session was titled as, “ Legal Framework of Sri Lanka and Its Implications”. Mr. Saliya gave a brief overview of the important aspects of the constitution that plays a vital role in safeguarding the rights of the individuals and emphasized the importance of the inclusion of economic, cultural and social rights of the Sri Lankans. He also pointed out the role the church and the other religious leaders could play by advocating for the rights of individuals and for a strong and independent justice mechanism.

A large number of individuals including the Bishops, Caritas Sri Lanka Directors, Staff, Civil Society Activists and religious joined in the virtual study sessions.
