On the 27th of June 2025 at 3.00 p.m., the premises of Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC became a place of joyful celebration as the blessing and opening ceremony of its New Buildings was held with much reverence and warmth. The event marked a significant milestone in the journey of Caritas Sri Lanka, as the long-awaited vision of a modern, spacious, and welcoming national centre became a reality.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Most. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, former Bishop Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC; Most Rev. Dr. Harold Anthony, the current Bishop Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC; and Most Rev. Dr. Maxwell Silva, former Vice Chairman of Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC. Their blessings and presence brought immense spiritual value to the occasion.
Rev. Fr. Luke Nelson, the National Director of Caritas Sri Lanka, stood at the heart of this celebration, not just as the Director but as the visionary leader behind this project. It was his dream and initiative that laid the foundation for the new building, and seeing it come to life was a moment of fulfilment and pride for him and the entire Caritas family.
All 13 Diocesan Directors also attended the event together with the clergy, architects, engineers, coordinators, supervisors, and workers who contributed their expertise and hard work to the construction, along with the committed staff of the National Centre and Caritas Colombo – Sethsarana.
The new building is more than just a structure; it is a symbol of unity, service, and renewed strength. It houses a state-of-the-art conference hall that can comfortably accommodate 250 people. The hall is fully equipped with modern facilities, including LED screens, full air-conditioning, and a cafeteria while making it ideal for hosting national and international events, training, and workshops.
On the upper floor, twelve super-comfortable, air-conditioned rooms have been designed to provide accommodation for guests, partners, and staff, offering a peaceful and convenient stay within the premises.
This milestone is a testament to the power of vision, collaboration, and faith. The opening of the new building is the realization of a dream that will serve generations to come. As Caritas Sri Lanka continues its mission of love, justice, and peace, this new space will stand as a beacon of hope and service to all.
