The Caritas Solid Waste Management Programme is gaining increasing popularity and several schools, higher educational institutions, and religious institutions have made use of the provided by Caritas Sri Lanka to learn about this subject.

In the month of July and August 2017 the programs were conducted at the St. Anthony’s Nursery, Borella, the Aquinas University College, Borella, Good Shepherd Convent, Nayakanda and at Caritas Sri Lanka. The program at Caritas Sri Lanka was for members of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Ja-Ella.

The participants were very enthusiastic and keen to learn about the Takakura method of making compost using kitchen waste. Several participants said that they were keen to spread the message of waste management and expressed the wish to join the Caritas Programme to further popularize the program. Inquiries were also made about marketing opportunities for compost made out of kitchen waste.
